Sakeena Itoo of @JKNC_ is the first candidate in the Union Territory who has filed nomination papers for the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir today. Accompanied by the party vice president @OmarAbdullah she filed papers for Damhal-Hanjipora segment of Kulgam which was previously Noorabad constituency. She comes from a rich political background as her father Wali Mohammad Itoo was elected MLA of Noorabad he contested and was elected MLA of Noorabad in 1977 and 1983.. He also served as Speaker in J&K Legislative Assembly in 1983-84. He was gunned down by militants while coming out after Friday prayers near Talab Khatikan Masjid in Jammu. His brother was also shot dead in 2001. Sakeena was elected as NC’s MLA from Noorabad in 1996 and 2008. She was inducted as a Minister in Farooq Abdullah’s government in 1996 and later in Omar Abdullah’s government in 2009. She has survived 20 terror attacks on her life including the one in which NC’s Kulgam leader advocate Ghulam Nabi Dar was killed. However, in keeping with the general party line, she does not speak publicly against the Militants.
